Why I’m Not Taking a Raise if Elected Mayor of Okotoks

When I decided to run for mayor of Okotoks, I did it because I care deeply about our community—not because of a salary.

Let me be clear: If elected as your mayor, I will not request or accept a raise during my term.

This campaign is about public service, not personal gain. I’m stepping forward because I believe Okotoks deserves leadership that puts people before politics, and fiscal responsibility at the heart of every decision.

It’s Not About the Money

My commitment to this role goes far beyond a paycheque. I’m running because:

  • I believe in this town,
  • I want to give back, and
  • I know that leadership means leading by example.

Right now, families in Okotoks are making sacrifices. People are watching their budgets closely, and our town government should be doing the same. In a time when so many are concerned about affordability, it simply wouldn’t feel right to accept a raise for myself while asking others to tighten their belts.

Respecting Your Tax Dollars

If I have the honour of serving as mayor, I will work to ensure that every tax dollar is used wisely, transparently, and with real impact. That starts at the top. I believe that responsible leadership includes being mindful of how we manage compensation at every level of municipal government, including the mayor’s office.

This means:

  • No raise for the mayor under my watch,
  • A focus on efficient, community-first budgeting, and
  • A commitment to do more with what we already have rather than ask residents for more.

A Promise to You

When you vote for me, you’re voting for a mayor who:

  • Won’t take a raise,
  • Won’t take your trust for granted, and
  • Will always put the community first.

My goal is to serve with integrity, transparency, and a clear understanding of what matters most to the people of Okotoks.

Let’s build a stronger, more affordable, and more accountable future—together.

Thank you for your support.

Wow!!! I am glad to hear this Colin. Too often government officials spend tax payers dollars without any accountability, and like you said, if they need more they just feel that raises our taxes if ok. I like the fact that you are going to put the people of Okotoks before profit.
