Hey friends,

I want to talk about something from Okotoks past: Lemonade Day.

Remember Lemonade Day?

If you’ve been in Okotoks for a while, you might remember this amazing event that was run before COVID hit. Kids all over town set up their lemonade stands, came up with fun business names, marketed their little “companies,” and got their first real taste of what it means to be an entrepreneur.

More Than Just Lemonade

But it wasn’t just about the lemonade. It was about life skills.

These kids were learning how to budget, plan, set goals, talk to customers, and even handle the ups and downs that come with running a business (yes, even a lemonade stand has its challenges, rainy weather, anyone?).

Time to Bring It Back

When the world changed in 2020, Lemonade Day understandably took a backseat. But now, I believe it’s time we bring it back, and make it better than ever.

As a mayoral candidate, one of my biggest goals is to support our young people, not just in school and sports, but in growing into the kind of adults who feel confident, creative, and capable of turning their ideas into action.

Lemonade Day is a fun and powerful way to do exactly that.

And Why Stop at Summer and Lemonade?

I want to take lemonade day one step further.

What is we had a kids craft and bake sale? This would give young entrepreneurs the chance to sell their homemade cookies, cupcakes, artwork, jewelry, slime, or whatever their imaginations can dream up. To make it even easier (and more fun) for them to ring up some sales, we could time the event just before Valentine’s Day, when people are already looking for sweet treats and heartfelt gifts.

It’s all about giving kids more ways to shine and explore their passions while learning real-world skills like budgeting, pricing, customer service, and marketing. Whether they love baking, building, or creating, there’s a place for every young entrepreneur to get involved.

Let’s Inspire the Next Generation

Let’s give our kids the tools and the encouragement to dream big. Because who knows? Today’s lemonade stand might just be tomorrow’s small business success story.
