Reflections After the Mayoral Election

Losing an election is a humbling experience. It forces you to pause, take a breath, and really sit with the journey you’ve been on. Over the last few weeks, my wife Amanda and I have had a lot of those reflective conversations; the kind you only have after a season of intense work, community connection, and big hopes.
One thing became clear to both of us: even though the election didn’t go the way we hoped, our desire to serve Okotoks hasn’t gone anywhere.
A Season Ends, but the Work Doesn’t
During the campaign, something unexpected and encouraging happened. We connected with so many residents who shared their stories, their concerns, and their dreams for this town. And through that process, this blog grew into more than just campaign updates. It became a place to talk about what kind of community we want to build together.
So after a lot of reflection, Amanda and I decided we’re not closing this chapter. We’re turning the page and starting a new one.
Keeping the Blog Going
We’ve gained a small but meaningful following. This following includes many people who care deeply about Okotoks and want to stay informed and engaged. Rather than stepping away, we want to keep this space alive and use it to do something positive.
Going forward, this blog will focus on highlighting the people, groups, and organizations that make our town a better place. There are so many unsung heroes in Okotoks, including local volunteers, small businesses, artists, nonprofits, coaches, and everyday neighbours. We want to give them a spotlight.
Why This Matters
Community isn’t just built by those sitting at the council table. It’s built by the people who show up day after day with heart, passion, and purpose. If we can use this platform to lift them up even just a little, then we’re still serving Okotoks in a meaningful way.
Know Someone Who Deserves a Spotlight?
If you know a person who’s an unsung hero or an organization quietly doing incredible work but not getting the credit they deserve, please reach out. We’d love to connect with them and help share their story with the community. You can email us at colin.langenberger@outlook.com or using the contact form here.
Thanks for sticking with us. We’re excited for this next chapter, and we can’t wait to shine a light on all the good happening around us.
