As 2026 approaches, I’ve found myself reflecting a lot on this past year, especially on the unexpected ways it shaped my holiday season.

Running in the recent mayoral race may not have ended the way I hoped, but it opened doors I never anticipated. The connections made throughout the campaign in the forms of conversations on doorsteps, messages of encouragement, shared concerns, and moments of genuine listening, have carried forward into my life in ways I’m deeply grateful for.

This Christmas season has been busier than usual, filled with more invitations, more conversations, more moments of connection with people across our community. While it’s meant fuller days and fewer quiet moments, my family and I have truly enjoyed the added sense of togetherness and belonging. There’s something special about feeling more connected to the place you call home, especially at this time of year. And I think it really showcases that Okotoks really can (and often does) have a small town feel.

This time of year, for me, is a reminder of the importance of slowing down, even when life feels full. It’s a season to pause, to be present with those we love, and to reflect on what really matters. My hope for each of you is that you find moments of peace amid the busyness, whether that looks like time with family, quiet walks, shared meals, or simply taking a breath.

As we prepare to step into a new year, I wish you hope. Hope for fresh beginnings, renewed energy, and meaningful connection. I also hope you’re able to give yourself permission to rest, to gather your strength, and to enter the new year feeling settled rather than rushed.

Thank you for the kindness, conversations, and community spirit you’ve shared with me this past year. It has meant more than I can easily put into words.

Colin and Amanda
