Hey folks,

Let’s talk about something we all notice: gas prices in Okotoks are often way higher than what you’ll see just down the road in High River or even in Calgary. If you’ve ever driven a few minutes and saved 10 cents a litre, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

It’s frustrating. And honestly, I think it’s time someone stood up and asked why this keeps happening.

If I’m elected mayor, I plan to do exactly that.

What’s the Difference Between Okotoks, High Rive, and Calgary?

I’ve seen gas prices in High River be 10 cents cheaper than here — sometimes more. And it’s not just a one-time thing. It happens a lot.

Some folks say it’s about the switch between summer and winter fuel. Others blame supply issues or delivery costs. But guess what? High River is just 15 minutes away. Calgary is 25. If they’re getting cheaper gas, why can’t we?

Something doesn’t add up.

What I’ll Do About It as Mayor

Look, the mayor doesn’t control gas prices directly. But what the mayor can do is speak up, push for answers, and use our voice at the provincial level. That’s exactly what I’ll do. Here’s how:

1. Push the Province for Answers

As mayor, I’ll have regular contact with MLAs and provincial ministers. I’ll ask straight-up: is there a real reason gas in Okotoks is more expensive? And if not, what are you going to do about it?

The Premier promised to protect Alberta consumers. That should include us too.

2. Stand Up for Okotoks

If we’re getting charged more just because retailers think they can get away with it, I’ll speak up. I’ll push for more competition and ask the province to look into unfair pricing. If something’s off, I’ll make noise about it.

3. Work With Local Businesses

If there are things we can do in town to help improve competition or attract new gas stations, I’ll look into it. Better competition = better prices.

Why It Matters

Gas prices might seem like a small issue but they add up fast. For families who commute or drive kids around town, it’s a hit to the wallet every week. Local businesses feel it too.

And honestly? It just feels unfair. We’re not that far from Calgary. We’re even closer to High River. If they can pay less, why can’t we?

Let’s Get Some Answers

This isn’t about blaming local gas station owners. It’s about getting to the bottom of a problem that’s been bugging people here for years. If there’s a good reason, I’ll share it. If there’s not, I’ll push for change.

I’m not here to point fingers, I’m here to stand up for the people of Okotoks.

We all work hard. We all drive. And we all deserve a fair shake when we fill up.

Let’s make sure we get it.

Candidate for Mayor of Okotoks
