A Decade Ago, My Family Was Struggling

About ten years ago, my wife and I were in a very difficult financial situation. We were working hard, doing everything we could to stay afloat—but it still wasn’t enough. We were worried about paying our bills. We were borrowing money from our parents just to get by. And we were constantly doing the math in our heads, trying to figure out how to make things stretch just a little further each month.

We were fortunate in one crucial way: we didn’t have to face the cost-of-living crisis that so many families are experiencing today. If we had, if property taxes, groceries, and utility costs had been what they are now, we likely would have lost our home.

Why That Experience Still Drives Me

That time in our lives changed me. It made me understand in a deeply personal way what it feels like to be stretched thin, to be doing everything right and still feel like you’re falling behind. It’s not just about numbers on a spreadsheet, it’s about people. It’s about families, dignity, and stability.

That experience is one of the biggest reasons I’ve decided to run for mayor.

Many in Our Community Are Facing the Same Struggles Today

Right now, there are families in our city going through the same stress my family once did, maybe even worse. They’re working hard, making sacrifices, doing everything they can to keep their heads above water, and hoping that something will change.

I want to be part of that change.

My Commitment: Protecting Homeowners from Rising Costs

As mayor, my top priorities will be to support a four year freeze of property taxes, especially for those who are already struggling.

That doesn’t mean ignoring our city’s needs or avoiding tough decisions. It means being:

  • Smart with spending,
  • Responsible with planning, and
  • Focused on what matters most: keeping our city affordable for the people who live here.

I truly believe we can:

  • Invest in our community without pushing people out of it,
  • Make thoughtful, balanced choices, and
  • Protect families from the fear of losing their homes.

This Campaign Is Personal

This campaign isn’t about politics for me. It’s personal.

It’s about making sure that no family in our town has to choose between paying their property taxes and putting food on the table. It’s about being a mayor who remembers what it’s like to struggle—and never forgets who we’re here to serve.

If you’ve ever been in that position, or if you’re in it now, I see you. I hear you. And I’m running to serve you.

Thank you for being part of this journey,

Colin Langenberger

Candidate for Mayor of Okotoks

Count on Colin!
